Choosing new setup for big waves and turbulent water. Also I need a fast and rigid mast. I am split between AFS Silk 650, Mikes Lab, Code Foil 615S, and Cabrinha. What do you think?

Such an awesome question. And I haven’t ridden any of those! I have ridden the AFS Pure 700 which definitely would handle big waves. And there’s a smaller one too!

I’ve also ridden the Code 850 and it was amazing, but I wonder if it will have too much lift even at 615. That being said the 850 was very well behaved for the amount of lift.

Gonna try and get a few other people riding these foils to chime in!

I've used the Silk 1050 in up to head high waves and the Silk 650 on flat water. Both are 25+ knot fast and don't increase foot pressure at speed. Both turn really well.

The masts are also super stiff, stiffer than an Axis alu but much thinner.

I have a Mikeslab 700 on the way to me. But for racing with a 100 mast. I used a Mikeslab 540 last week (also fast ofc). The AFS and Mikes masts were comparable.

Not having used any of them personally. I vote for silk 650.

If you’ve got mikes lab type of time and budget:
- demo these
- let us know how they compare
- probably skip cabrinha not sure they’ve ever been in the same sentence as mikes lab, I’d look at axis, f one, or armie over cab

Pm me if you need guidance on where to demo a silk 650

I’ll preemptively flag as an ad just in case the pitchforks are warm

This is the kind of brand engagement we need! But no info on the actual foils?? So why not Pure 560 instead of Silk for big waves? Seems to me like it could handle anything.

I’m not some secret repository of foil information all the details are on afs website and YouTube ;) I’m a warehouse monkey that foils on the side. With the information in the op the best recommendation I can make is to demo. I didn’t bring the pure 560 into the conversation as it’s a wing racing foil and op didn’t ask about it. The silk on the other hand was designed for big waves period.

There is no best foil, there’s a lot of great foils so if someone has the means and time to buy mikes lab they have the means and time to demo so I’ll stick to my initial recommendation demo, demo, demo.
