Wingman Foil Club

I have been winging alone in Ketchikan, alaska for years now.. working on building a community.. My friend John is winging now and i have taught my son Trey. I am curious to connect with other alaskan's interested in foiling in general. Especially in southeast alaska from Yakutat to Ketchikan/Prince Rupert/Hyder.. I spend time in most of the major cities in between for work during the summer.. Thinking of stashing a rig in Skagway as it is windy as heck there almost every day. I kind of imagine this post sitting here for a long time before someone responds :)
I do get a lot of windy days here although it isn't nearly as consistent as the gorge or other wind destinations. I wing in general from February late november/early december.. Gloves being the limiting factor.. Heading down to La Ventana in the winters as much as family life allows. Would love to check out Maui some day.

This is so awesome it made me realize the forum doesn't have a "Like" button. Gonna look into some extensions to see if we can add that feature. I would love to wing in Alaska someday. Maybe I should continue driving north before or after AWSI. What's the best time of year and best spot for winging? There most be some really picturesque spots!

Likely after awsi is good time. Skagway and Yukon are very good. It’s fairly good at my place in ketchikan. Scenery is going to be amazing almost anywhere you go. A trip to the Aleutian Islands is guaranteed wind. The Alaska Marine Highway system runs a ferry from Bellingham, Washington. It’s not cheap though. I could probably line you up with some good ideas for a road trip if you wanted to go that route. Would make some pretty incredible vlog. The nice thing about September in October is the wind is starting to get stronger, but the ocean is still quite warm relative to what it will be in November through May

That’s so cool. I don’t know if this year is realistic, but I’m definitely interested.

My dad was stationed at the end of the Aleutian Islands during Vietnam. The two notable events during his stay were a tsunami and when a commercial flight got diverted to their airfield and they were able to hang out with the flight attendants for the night.
